Day 16 - qui a fait caca sur Snoopy ?
Who pooped on Snoopy 🥺?....
While I sorted out the breakfast dishes, Jill went to the toilet block. She returned with a smile on her face "have you seen the side of the van?"..."What the....! I told you there was a reason I wanted the roof vent shut last night, that would have been all over the bed 😡".
I dont know what it was that did it but obviously it wasnt well !. Luckily our water token, included in the pitch price, gave us more than enought water to fill the tank so the rest was used to hose down the van. My water, I'll use it how I want. It was all going to end up in the ground one way or another at some point anyway.
We were heading back East and inland to Carcassonne today. "Oooo you have to go to Carcassonne, theirs so much to see, its beautiful" everybody had told us 🤔
Driving back along the side of the lagoon, watching the windsurfers, we headed into the hills past all the holiday homes and villages.
We were in no rush, we needed some bread and beer so would stop at a 'Intermarche' supermarket enroute but first we needed LPG. We had been using a lot of LPG to boost the electric heating while up in the hills and obviously for cooking but we had been using the oven a lot so we were down to one 'dot' on the gauge. The gauge is notoriously inaccurate but we reckoned we had about 1/3 of a tank left: the tank, under the van, holds 14lts. First time to use our new European adaptors to connect the pump to the van and it all worked smoothly; a lot easier than trying to use the pumps at Shell or BP stations in the UK. Put in just over 10lts so we were right, about 1/3 left, worked out at £0.83/lt 😉
We were heading into wine making country again. Vinyards everywhere. Each one in either a different little valley or even at different ends of the same valley, they all got slightly different amounts of sunshine, rain or wind, had slightly different soils and therfore produced slightly different wine.
And then there where the poppys. Sometimes growing in between the rows of vines, at the side of the road or taking over an entire field, suddenly there would be a burst of color in the sunshine. The only downside was that there were very few laybys to actually stop and take photos 😔
Camping for the next 2 nights was at Camping 3 étoiles La Commanderie about 15 minute drive from Carcassonne. There are very few campsites in the area; there are overnight stay carparks in the city but none of them get good reviews.
This place cateres for vans, caravans, tents and has a few chalets. It has a bar that, out of season, was OPEN ( probabley because there were a lot of Brits on site). The amenities are modern and clean. In summer its probably packed with families using the pool but now, out of season, although busy, was still quite. Unlike other sites the showers had hooks and shelves 😁, but like other sites in France the toilets had no paper and no seats 😮. You either 'hovered' or 'wiped and balanced' ; trying not to fall in 😱.
We were given a terrace pitch, a little bit of a slope but sheltered and settled in for the night. While I did the blog, Jill continued with Le sock , concentrating hard as she entered a new phase; la zone des orteils, the toe area 🤔
