Day 22 - Jill l'étreinte du pylône 🤗
Jill the pylon hugger 🤗.. Woke up to a bright sunny day and clear blue sky. The Albanian people smugglers had not whisked Jill away in the dead of the night on our lonely carpark so everything was good. The 'devils battery' after 17hrs sat out in the open was now only 'mildly' warm to the touch. The recycle center opened at 9am but, first, we had other plans.
There was a walk, from the far side of the carparks, thru a tunnel under the A75 that would take us to one of the Millau Bridge pylons itself and Jill wanted to go and touch it! 😀
Armed with a small rucksack and 2ltrs of water off we set before the temperature got too high (it was already crawling towards the 20's).
The path took us thru pretty meadows of little pink, purple and yellow flowers. Butterflies danced about, flies buzzed about under the tree canopies and I tried to avoid walking into spiders webs strung between bushes, at face height, glistening with the last of the morning dew.
Could the day get any better? Well yes it did; there was a geocache hidden around the back. Another one ticked off.
Back along the same 'up'ty downy' path we got back to the van hot and sweaty to find the local gypsies hadn't helped themselves to our dead battery so we would have to load in the van and go to the recycle center. Problem was it was shut for dinner! Ok, we need supplies anyway, time to try a new supermarket and stock up on beer. Besides, we were going to have to pay another €15 to get off the motorway so I wanted something to take my mind off it 🥴
The 'Casino' supermarket of Millau was huge 😯. We must have spent almost 2hrs walking round looking for this and that. By the time we got back to the van and unloaded everything it was getting on for 'tea time' traffic thru the town. "Forget it. The battey has cooled down, I'll put it under the van. Lets just get to the campsite"
Camping Millau Plage is one of the better campsites along the river Tarn that runs alongside the city of Millau. We were left to pick our own spot, so we settled by the river and set up camp for the next 2 nights. Couldn't resist the cold white wine in the fridge at reception so settled down to try a new cheese from the deli counter at the supermarket watching the river flow by 😋.
