Day 18 - Cité de Carcassonne en prend deux 🎬

Carcassonne City - take two! 🎬
It didnt happen 🥴. The plan was to get up early and get into the city to find parking. At 0200hrs we were woken by the Carbon Monoxide alarm going off! Obviously the cooker wasn't on and the fridge was running on electric, not gas; it was the batteries. Rummaging around in the overhead locker, 2x new AA batteries were fitted and everything went back to normal.
Well not really 😣 couldn't get back to sleep. When morning did arrive, after trotting over to the office to get the breakfast croissants, it wasn't very long before I was back to book another night. The site was quite and we had a nice view so why not. Carcassonne wasn't going anywhere. Besides, the pool was now open ready for the season to start 😁. While Jill continued on Le Sock, I went for a ramble and a spot of geocaching in the midday sun.
The 1st one was easy, behind a tree under a pile of 'out of place' stones..... The next 2 were higher up the hillside on the otherside of a 'once' wooded area which had seen some extensive lightening strike damage and a lot of remaining trees simply cut down and left to rot, reducing the risk of a  major fire breaking out and wiping out the vineyards.
Once over the top it all turned grassy but could I find these other 2 caches? 🤨.
One was in the middle of a large area of long grass, no trees or rocks to give any clues and the other on a steep bank, again covered in long grass. With poisonous snakes fairly common in this part of France and the fact I didn't have my resident medic with me to 'suck out the poison', I poked about for a bit with a stick then gave up. Besides it was time for lunch.
Back towards the vinyards and a bit higher up, a ruined tower of some sort, provided somewhere to site, admire the view and eat for a while but it was getting hotter.
Time to head back to Rustiques and one last geocache, a micro cache, somewhere around the old château. Like so many in France these days, it was abandoned. The only sign of inhabitants?  the bee colony getting in between a set of old broken window shutters. Makes you wonder just how big the hive was on the other side😱
Wandering around the village I managed to find the micro cache, behind a small stone about 6 feet up in the château wall.
( The little yellow .........^.......capsule , out from its hiding place).
You don't usually find anything in micro caches other than a small piece of paper to record your find, but I managed to squeeze a squirrel into the little capsule for the next person to find.
It was still hot; so back to the site and a beer by the pool. Jill had ventured out too and was swimming or lounging around the pool with a good book so I stayed and had another beer.
At some point I moved inside and at some point Jill came in and we ended up playing Cludeo, in French, trying to count and ask questions in only..... French.... till the owners kicked us out as we were the only 2 in the bar.

Tomorrow?, who knows 🤨
