Day 20 - En route pour voir un autre pont 🌉
Off to see another bridge 🌉 .....
Jill had always wanted to go, see and drive over, the Millau Viaduct. The journey was about 3hrs north of us and the plan was to drive up, thru another national park, get to the visitors center, have a look around then drive over the bridge. We would then find somewhere to stop. Plans.... they never seem to always work out, do they 🤔?
Nothing went wrong during todays trip , it just seemed to take much, much longer for some reason. It was sunday so we were expecting cycle traffic, but none appeared. Ok, we were a little late leaving as I had to get the compressor out and put some air in the tires but that was it really. It was sunny ( mid 20's) and we were heading into a new national park. The Haut Languedoc park is best described as 'hilly and green with the odd splash of colour'.
After a nice lunch, parked up in a tiny stretch of 'lay by' looking down on the valley, we had a couple of hairpin bends to get down before hitting civilisation again and getting a glimpse of our target in the distance.
By now the weather had turned. Storm clouds were in the sky and it suddenly dawned on us that we had maybe spent a little too much time admiring the scenery and taking it slow. We didn't really have enough time to get up to the visitors center before it shut and then get over the viaduct so we decided to drive under it ,at least, then find a place for the night.
Using the app, we picked another CampingCarPark spot for the night, just north west of the viaduct at Saint Beauzély and set off. Missed the turning completely, had to turn round in the carpark of the only bar in the village then inch our way into the narrow track that lead down to a 20 pitch site down by a river, covered with trees.
Only a couple of vans parked up and apart from the flies still buzzing about in the last heat of the day it was all quite and peaceful.
