Day 8 - 'nous étions ici !'

'We were here !'.. As we wandered over to the toilet block the ground felt wet after last nights rain but not soft or muddy. Well, thats with my dainty xxx kgs standing on it 😉 ... whole different ball park when you have 3 and a half ton to move across it 🫣. Yes, we got stuck ! 🙄. Good and proper stuck in the mud. We only had 6 feet to go to get to the road  but those front wheels just kept on spinning. We have skid mats that we carry for situations like this but they turned out to be as much use as a pair of chocolate fire guards: too thin and flismy.
Even doubling them up made no difference. In the end it took the pushing of 1 englishman, 4 french men, and a couple of shovelfulls of stones that Jill pinched from the childrens play area to get Daisy the campervan out onto the road again 🤗. The flimsy skid mats, broken and muddy were cleaned up and stored away, just in case, but they will be going in the bin when we get home 😞
We still had to use the service point; dump and refill so we were late getting away. After lunch in a picnic area, we still had 2.5hrs -3hrs to get into Spain to the campsite. I'm not sure if its just the region of France we are in or because we are getting closer to Spain but the roundabouts are starting to get interesting .....
 For no reason we can think of, we then had another change of heart and decided to make the most if the next day or so getting over the western edge of the Pyrenees, to then be in Spain when the weather turned really bad, which was now not expected till the weekend.
   Internet searching gave us a proper campsite, still within France; Camping Pyrénées Nature on the outskirts of Oloron-Sai te-Marie. It had all the facilities we wanted, so off we went. As the mountains appeared on the horizon we started to wonder if we had made the right choice as the sky was definitely on the turn.
Booked in, connected and all set up we were favoured with about an hours worth of sunshine to sit and look at the Pyrenees before it started to get chilly.

We need to do this and this and this and... For almost all of  this trip we have been flexible and mostly making it up as we go along or day by day. Day 35 - journée touristique

Tourist day. Today we are going to do the tourist thing and go round the medieval town of Rocamadour just down the road from the site. But first, jobs to do. Thanks to the campsite being in the middle of extending its toilet block, I was able to borrow a set of ladders from an electrician and clamber up onto the hot van roof and run sealant around everything I could reach to try and stop the leak in the wet room.  Time will tell. Rocamadour, "Citadel of Faith", sits 450 feet above the deep valley of the Alzou river and has been a renowned place of pilgrimage since the 12th century, frequented by such famous people as Henry II of England and Louis IX of France. Day 25 - Unterlegkeile weg! 🇩🇪

Chocks away ! - At O Five Fifty Eight hours (0558hrs) the first German campervan started its engines and taxied down the sleeping lines of vans to escape the ticket man. His 2nd in command took off 10 minutes later. Just as the sun creeped over the horizon, the French garbage men arrived, promptly, at 0630hrs. Jill, with her ear plugs in, was oblivious to it all. I got up and put the kettle on 🤨.     We weren't rushing to avoid the ticket man, the €15 was already counted out in coins ready for him/her but we felt good we had managed to get up, had breakfast and packed away before 8am. As we taxied towards the exit, we spotted the little mans scooter parked next to his booth and he was just opening up. Surprised to see us, we said hello and offered him the money.
