Day 7 - Bordeaux et le pays de D'Artagnan
'Bordeaux and the land of D'Artagnan'
Heading south into '3 musketeers' country today; Bordeaux and Gascony. Big change in the landscape. Gone were the long straight roads thru acres of farmers fields; hello to winding roads and gentle to moderate 'up'ty down'y' bits.
Today was all about pastures of wild floweres, small wooded areas, huge tree plantations, acres of baby Christmas trees and the occasional little sleepy village. Oh, and.... vineyards. Whats over the hill?... more vinyards, and then we have.... more vinyards 🙄. Not surprising really given the area but it was all very pretty and the sun was out.
Found a nice lay-by to have lunch with the ruins of the abbey of St.Michlea in the distance then it was onward as today was really just a 'punch down' day.
Final destination was a camperstop site on the on the edge of the little town of Grenade-sur-l'Adour on...the Ardour river. Practically silent 🤫, well kept with a toilet block this time together with out side sink areas, it also had showers but for some reason they were shut. As we followed our pasta and home made garlic bread meal with a glass of red and a nice cherry pie our thoughts changed to the plan for tomorrow .
We wanted to head to the Pyrenees, spend some time up in the mountains then take it as it comes. The weather was not good 😱, snow and sub zero temperatures at night.
We did not want to get stuck in the Pyrenees as we didnt bring any snow chains 😖.
"Lets follow the weather, at least for a day or 2", ...."Ok, but we need to find a campsite because we need to do the laundry " said Jill....'Ok' 🤔. So we opted to just head further south and go into Spain 🇪🇸 to a site just outside Pamplona. Plan made, we settled down to a film while the sun set and the rain started to gently fall 🤨
